Leukothea was a sea goddess who came to the aid of sailors in distress.
Ino, became a goddess after Hera drove her insane as a punishment for caring for the newborn Dionysos. She leapt into the sea with her son Melicertes and out of pity, the Olympian gods turned them both into sea-gods, transforming Melicertes into Palaemon and Ino into Leukothea.
